Betty Juel Proctor, was born on January 25, 1926 in
Eldorado,
Illinois and went to sleep in the arms of Jesus, Aug. 28, 2011. She was the oldest of five children born to Clint and Geneva Jones. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Robert Jones.
Betty Proctor was a devoted, caring and faithful wife to the love of her life, Reverend Wayne Proctor. They were married on August 2, 1944 in Evansville, Illinois and celebrated 67 years of marriage on August 2, 2011.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne, residing in Bakersfield, California. One son, Robert and his wife, Linda of Bakersfield, California. Two granddaughters, Diane, LaDonna and her husband, Michael of Bakersfield, California. Five great-grandchildren, Lauren, Michaela, Robert, Dillan, and Benjamin of Bakersfield, California.
A sister, Barbara Carroll of Goreville, Illinois, two brothers, Reverend Jim Jones and his wife, Gwendolyn of Orlando, Florida, John Jones and his wife Kay of Marion, Illinois, and a sister-in-law, Dorothea Jones of Galatia, Illinois, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a member of Southwest Christian Center Church of God in Bakersfield, California, where her son, Dr. Robert Proctor, serves as lead pastor.
She was a gracious and accomplished woman. She capably served in various areas of ministry along with her husband Wayne. Their ministerial duties included pastorates in Tennessee, Illinois and Kentucky. Bro. and Sister Proctor were privileged to serve the Church of God as State Overseer and State Director of Women’s Ministries for the Church of God in the states of New Jersey, California, and Illinois.
She was a member of the National Honor Society and the Thespian Society. She attended Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Illinois and Chafee College, Ontario, California. She was a former member of the International Women’s Ministry Board of the Church of God.
Besides her ministerial duties, she taught school and was an accomplished writer. Her abilities in both education and administrative roles were well recognized. She was a mentor to many young women over the years. Her guidance and encouragement was appreciated by those she mentored. She was noted for her refinement and grace. She was that proverbial woman referred to in Proverbs 31. Her family and friends remember her as a very loving, dainty, and pretty lady. She was always dressed up and took great pride in her appearance.
Her strongest character was found in her devotion to Jesus Christ. She had a personal relationship with her Savior that sustained her throughout her life. Her prayer life was dynamic. Her speaking ability anointed. Her compassion evident to all she met. She exhibited that silent strength of trust in God. She lived her life with dignity and grace, and entered eternal life in like manner.
She will be missed by her husband and family. She is forever in our hearts. She will always be loved and cherished.
